Donors thank you for your continued support.
The eruption of the volcano, La Soufriere in April, caused many disrupptions and challenges.
Youlou Arts Foundation immediately responded to the disaster by donating art supplies to the children in shelters at the Buccament Government School, the Calliaqua Government School, the Girls High School and the Central Leeward Secondary School at Peter's Hope.
In June Youlou Arts Foundation hired an art instructor to provide art activities for children sheltering in schools. The plan was to create murals and other fun art activities. The targeted schools were: the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, the Kingstown Preparatory School, CW Prescott School, the Girls High School, and the Grammar School.
A total of four outdoor murals were created with help from the evacuees.
Finally during the last week of July the shippment of art supplies needed for the art kits arrived. The shippment contained donations from "The Beautiful Stuff Project", members from "Turtle Studios" and friends in Massachusetts,
Currently the art kits are being distributed to the children in shelters.
Preperations are being made for the 2021 annual visual arts programme which starts August 9th.
This year the program is being offered in one location, at the Youlou Art Centre, Indian Bay.
There will be news about this program in my next report. Stay tuned donors and continue to support us. Your financial aid is always needed.

The volcano the night before the violent eruption
The volcano the night before the violent eruption

On Friday morning, April 9th around 8: 50 am the volcano, La Soufriere started to erupt violently on the island of St. Vincent.
People who live near the volcano were evacuated the day before and placed in shelters. This violent eruption continued throughout the day.  The next day, Saturday,  the island was covered with ash. In some areas several feet and others just a dusting.
It is a distrissing state of affairs.
No one knows how long the volcano activities will continue - or how long it will be before the island returns to regular life. This is compounded by the fact that all this is happenig in the midst of a pamdemic. It is truly tragic!
Donors your full support is needed during this crisis. At the moment,
Youlou Arts is organizing to send art kits for the childen stuck in shelters.
We need your help more than ever. St. Vincent is truly going through a difficult time.

There was a period between September and December 2020 when activities at the Youlou Art Centre were more or less back to normal, since the pandemic started in March.
Schools reopened in September and were fine until December when they closed for the Christmas Holidays. Since then schools have not been able to reopen.  An unofficial lockdown is taking place on the island.
At the Youlou Art Centre all activities have ceased.

During the normal period the Youlou Art Centre continued offering art classes. The Saturday morning art for children titled " Hello Art "  continued and a new weekly art class started for adults.
There was an opening reception on Saturday, December 12, for the show 3 + 3. This show featured the art work of three painters and three photographers. The plan is to keep the show up until the end of March and maybe longer.
At the moment there are no visitors.

We are standing still and hoping for better days. It is sad!
However we continue to plan for the future. We are planning an art teachers show and a one woman show by an artists who is an alum of the "Growing Young SVG Artists" programme. All very exciting upcoming events.
Donors we need your support through these dark times.
Dawn is around the corner. We thank you for your continued support.

Donors 2020 has forced us to be even more creative. We are persiting in spite of all! Your support is key. Please continue your donations.
In July we had our annual art programme "Growing Young SVG Artists," in one location, the Kingstown area. We did not organize it in the other three rural locations on account of Covid -19.
For the first time since the programme has been organized. I was not physically there to help run it.
This year the focus was  "Trees".  The children grew trees, adopted trees, made family trees and even a wishing tree. Both the  children and parents were happy with the planned activities.
On Saturday, August 15 the second annual women's show "Vincy Women Artist Now 2020 " Show opened at the Youlou Art Centre.
This show was well attended and several paintings have sold. The show ends November 20/2020. During the month of October we are planning to invite school children to come and see the show.
Now that children are back at school we are busy promoting the Saturday morning art class for children age 5 to 12.
We are also making plans for 2021 and hoping for a great year.
We know the times are stressful, the arts are needed more than ever.
The need to console and comfort through the arts is of utmost importance.
Donors I am appealing to you to give us your financial support.

Dear donors the Covid 19 virus has put us all on pause for the moment. The majority of our plans, made in the fall of 2019 have been canceled. It is truly painful.
However we were able to have the opening reception for the show titled "Lush SVG" on March 7. The response was positive. Several paintings were sold. The show continues until July 20.
Canceled from the middle of March were our Saturday morning "Hello Art" class and our newly implemented "After School Art Club". All schools have been closed since March 20th.
During the months of April and May, the Youlou Art Centre closed for  repairs. It reopened  May 30. We are in the process of trying to restart our Saturday morning art class.
We are still trying to figure out if we will be able to offer our annual art program titled "Growing Young SVG Artists". For 20 years we have been offering it without interupption.
Donors we need your support more than ever.
We realize in these stressful times the arts are needed more than ever.
Programs we hoped would bring in some well needed funds had to be canceled.
But other opportunities have presented themselves. Adults are seeking art classes at the Centre. We want to sieze this opportunity, but funding is needed.
Donors I am appealing to you to give us your financial support today. The world needs art right now. We thank you for your continued support.
