Star Program in Tel Aviv Jaffo study English
Thanks to your ongoing support, we are now managing three separate Star Program groups (about 45 students in total), with two groups from the Ness Tziona area and one from Tel Aviv-Jaffa. These activities are fully coordinated with the Educational Department at each of the municipalities.
During the 3rd Quarter of 2010 (August to October) which included the summer vacation in which the students enjoyed time off, the following activities were delivered to Star Program participants:
-Dozens of one on one individual mentoring sessions with program participants
-11 after school small group tutorial lessons in the subjects of mathematics, language skills and English
-20 one on one hours of tutorial lessons in mathematics were provided to prepare one of the Star Program participants for a school math test that allowed him acceptance to a higher level group at school
-Two Star Program participants received a weekly one and a half hour one on one tutorial session in mathematics (delivered by volunteers) throughout the entire summer vacation
- A one day tour at the Visitors Center of "Better Place" Co., one of the world’s leading developers of re-charging networks for electric vehicles. The visit included participation in an entrepreneurship workshop.
-A tour of the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem
-A visit to the Jerusalem Science Museum
-A musical drum workshop to symbolize the closure of the 2009-2010 school year. At this event, two outstanding Star Program participants were selected and received vouchers for the purchase of school supplies.
-In cooperation with the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel, a weekly orienteering and eco-touring workshop was launched for one of the groups in Ness Tziona and the group in Tel Aviv-Jaffo.
-As part of the field orienteering workshop activities, a two day field trip (including sleeping in tents) was held in the Jerusalem Mountains region.
-In preparation for the 2010-2011 school year activities, all program participants completed one on one personal meetings with Ariela staff to better understand their needs and progress levels
On an additional note, Ariela has added Tirsit as a new member to its team. Tirsit is a community coordinator, who will be involved with the participants of the Star Program groups in Ness Ziona, and their families. Tirsit is highly experienced in guiding teams, organizing workshops and putting together suitable curricula.
