Star Program Update - June 2012

                                                                                                                         June 2012

Dear Supporters of the Ariela Foundation,

We continue to be extremely grateful and appreciative of your donations to the Star Program which now operates in three separate municipalities (Ness Tziona, Tel Aviv – Jaffa and Gedera) where it is changing the lives of dozens of middle school and high school students of Ethiopian origin. Through your donations, you are helping to improve the lives of young Ethiopian Jews that will become future role models for their community.

Throughout the last few weeks, Ariela continued to deliver dozens of different activities within the framework of the Star Program including weekly after school science workshops, weekly field orienteering workshops, weekly small group tutorial lessons, weekly self-empowerment workshops, parenting workshops, light meals for participants, dozens of one on one tutoring/mentoring sessions, overnight field trips, enrichment activities, guest volunteer lectures regarding life skills, material assistance for educational supplies and giving back to the community activities.

Some of our latest achievements include the following:

-One participant received a grade of 100 in mathematics (he received special additional assistance in preparation for his test).

-One participant began preparing for Bagrut (Israeli high school diploma) with an emphasis on physics (5 point matriculation), a subject he had not studied before.

-One participant improved his grade in mathematics from "Fail" during the first quarter to 65 during the second quarter.

- Solid progress was achieved terms of strengthening the national Israeli identity of participants which sometimes feel marginalized in terms of their self-identity.

-As a result of one on one mentoring work, many participants showed an improvement of self-image and self-confidence (this was expressed by significant actions of self-initiative and overcoming shyness to publicly express opinions).

Attached you will find some of the latest pictures which we hope will illustrate some of the activities and great results we are achieving thanks to your kind help.

Thanks once again for all of your ongoing support and for playing an active role. Please do not forget that all donations given on the 13th of June will receive 50% matching from Global Giving.
