Sport clubs for disadvantaged South African kids

by Inspired2Become

We run sport clubs (that includes rollerblading, skateboarding, skimboarding and athletics for youth with disabilities). We combine the sport clubs with life skills lessons. Our aim is to see young people reach their full potential by focusing on youth who gets over-looked many times. We want to inspire them through positive role modeling, relationship building, coaching sport, mentoring life skills and creating new opportunities.

Inspired2Become (I2B) mainly works in developing, disadvantaged areas but is not restricted to these communities. The problems we face are very similar in most of the areas we work in. Some of these problems/challenges include high amounts of school drop outs, financial difficulties, alcohol/drug problems and gangsterism.

Our life skills program focuses on motivating youth to put their education first. The program helps youth to realize the importance of having an education and it also motivates them to achieve better school marks. We want to also teach them good morals, raise up leaders and help with bursaries/employment. Through teaching them these skills, we aim to build a trustworthy relationship with them.

Long-Term Impact

Through our sport and life skills clubs we coach 100 kids on a weekly basis. Currently we only have one full time coach and two part time coaches. Through the long term relationship built by these coaches, our aim is to see the youth in our sport clubs become financially independent adults.
