Child Labor is rampant in Mukono Central Division, this is against all the UN Declarations on child rights, it also violent the constitution of Uganda. A research by ANPCCAN found that child labor was at 15% in Mukono Central Division(ANPCCAN Report, 2015). The common forms of child labor in this area are street vending, sex work and house maid. The Sponsor a child stop child labor project aims taking back children to school through paying their fee and providing scholastic materials.
According to ANPCCAN, 2015; 15% of the children in Mukono Central Division are in child labor. Most are into dangerous work like vending good on streets including on Kampala-Jinja Highway on which accidents common, some are into sex work which is leading many to get unwanted pregnancies, HIV, and into forced marriages. Other children are used as house maids who face problems of low pay, sexual harassment and torture. All these children are denied a chance to go to school and acquire education.
With Sponsor a Child Stop Child Labor Project, children who are engaging in dangerous labor activities will get a chance to go back to school to acquire education and skills which are key to leaving meaningful lives when they grow into adults. The project will identify children under child labor and rehabilitate them through counseling, provision of scholastic materials and paying their school fees. The project will also engage their families to start income generating activities like piggery.
The project will take 200 children away from dangerous labor into formal education and other vocational training to acquire education and skills needed to leave a meaningful life.
