Challenge

Legal activism has shaped social justice for generations, and art is a powerful way to engage with lawyers and the general public about how legal activism can and has built more equitable futures. ICAAD Artivist Harbani Ahuja will compose 40 poems for an exhibit, Dicta, that seeks to unearth the essence of decisions by courts of law in order to illuminate the broader social justice themes.

Solution

In 2020, ICAAD named its inaugural ARTivist, Harbani Kaur Ahuja to the ICAAD ARTivism Program. ICAAD is pairing Harbani's works, entitled Dicta, with photos and the history around the court decisions, culminating in a traveling and interactive virtual exhibition of formative changes to the rule of law and civil and human rights. The 40 poem series will span the human rights themes of Women's Rights, Rights of Black People, LGBTQI+ Rights, and Climate Change & Indigenous Rights.

Long-Term Impact

ICAAD ARTivism exhibits will inspire lawyers to partner with ICAAD to create a more equitable world through future human rights advocacy efforts. The Dicta exhibit will educate and inspire the American public to better understand the timelessness of civil rights issues, and the importance of engaging in legal activism. Your support of the ICAAD ARTivism Program will help make the Dicta Exhibit possible. Unleash your inner ARTivist today!
