Summary

Building upon the momentum of GFC's global initiative, the Spark Fund, GFC will resource youth-led work around air pollution, climate change resilience, conservation of natural resources and habitats, impact on vulnerable communities and more. Through our one-of-a-kind Spark Fund Initiative, a representative panel of youth activists and youth-led community-based organizations are working at the local level to develop solutions for a more environmentally equitable world.

Challenge

Children and youth in the Global South are and will continue to be disproportionately affected by climate change, especially in marginalized communities. Youth activists are taking control of their futures and advocating for practical solutions. They're not lacking ideas or knowledge of the issue-but access to resources and the opportunity to take control of their futures. Global Fund for Children seeks to fund and elevate children and youth from communities most impacted by climate change.

Solution

Investments in young leaders will allow them to push for significant change in their communities, while supporting the personal development of promising youth leaders. Over two years, GFC will offer leadership development opportunities, emphasizing elevating youth from communities historically excluded from philanthropy. Ultimately, we aim to cultivate the growth of a much larger transformation to the philanthropic response to climate justice and to the sector itself.

Long-Term Impact

Through the Spark Fund, 80+ youth leaders, as panelists or partners, will implement their ideas on climate resilience in four rounds of grantmaking in Southeast Asia, Latin America, Southern Africa, and South Asia, representing over 13 countries. The flexible grant funding, capacity development, and networking opportunities will enable the groups to innovate and develop new regional and international partnerships. Their cutting-edge work will ripple out from their communities into larger society
