Mothers and children at a RI clinic
Relief International (RI) has continued to provide vital health and nutrition services to Somali mothers and children. Our organization was one of the first agencies to respond to the famine crisis. Through our efforts, thousands of mothers and children have been assisted. Our health and nutrition projects have offered vital services in a region where health facilities are nearly nonexistent and the facilities that exist have limited reach, supply, and staff.
RI has been on the ground in Somalia since 2007. Beyond health and nutrition, RI is also undertaking other initiatives and projects to promote long-term development and rebuild livelihoods. Our various projects range from health, nutrition, women’s protection, animal husbandry, education to media freedom.
RI is working to increase educational opportunities and access to primary education with a special focus on girls. Our primary education efforts have reached over 8,000 schoolchildren. Our projects focus on increasing the quality of primary education and enrollment and retention rates. Another important component of our education work has been the establishment of girls’ clubs. Through these clubs, girls have an opportunity develop skills and become leaders while they build self confidence with a close support group of peers.
Our staff would like thank all our donors for their vital support through Global Giving. Together we have greatly impacted the lives of many mothers and children.
