Mentor Coach Empower Uganda enables young people to thrive in life and drive economic development. Our innovative and transformative approach will equip 1000 youth (early school dropouts; 60% women) with entrepreneurship and employability skills, competencies and opportunities. This will enable youth: to find and keep a job, start and grow a business or get involved in their communities activities. This is all focusing on creating economic opportunities for youth in Uganda.
According to the World Bank, youth ages 15 to 30 make up 83% of Uganda's unemployed. Over 70% of youth are not formally employed for wages. With one of the world's highest population growth rates and the amount of job seekers expected to reach 48 million by 2040, Uganda is at a critical juncture. Unfortunately, young people lack the skills, competencies and opportunities to start a business, find and keep a job, or get involved in their communities. This project come in to address the issue.
Our program provides an alternative education experience that prepares out of school youth (15-25 years) to thrive socially and economically. Youth participate in a yearlong experience that provides the skills and opportunities to learn: leadership and life skills; product making or service provision skills; start and grow businesses; find and keep jobs plus engage actively in the community. This is coupled with ongoing mentorship and an apprenticeship experience through our community mentors.
We will empower 1000 out of school youth 60% women to: 1. Start a business and or find a job, 2. Increase their community participation in addressing community challenges, 3. Increase incomes. This will all lead to addressing the un employment problem thus getting the youth leap out of poverty.
