Project #26575

Bring Light to the Remote Homes in Cambodia

by Child's Dream

Many rural communities depend on petroleum lamps or car battery powered light bulbs to light their homes. With solar charging station at the school, we support them in accessing cheap and environmentally friendly electrical energy. The nominal fee the school is asking for a battery load, is being invested in teaching and learning materials, and supporting other school activities.
total goal

Rural schools located in the Mekong Sub-Region are poorly resourced and lack financial support for their activities. In addition to the problems of poor infrastructures and facilities, schools often do not have enough resources for teaching and learning, nor stationary to aid their students in building up knowledge.

By setting up solar charging stations for car batteries in schools, we are supporting the communities in accessing electrical energy that is cheaper and more environmentally-friendly. Also, the school can generate some income by charging a nominal fee for the service.

Long-Term Impact

The income generated can then be used to purchase teaching and learning materials, maintain the charging station and school, as well as to support other school activities. Students can also attend classes while waiting for the car batteries to recharge.
