Karambi Group of People with Disabilities (KaGPWD) is championing the empowerment of the disabled community in the Rwenzori, Uganda. By helping persons with disabilities to enjoy their freedom and prosper, we ensure access to community based rehabilitation, healthcare, food, income enhancement and advocacy. We are serving a population of 316 people with disabilities and majority are youth. Funding is needed for building a training workshop, provide tools, hire trainers, materials and support.
Throughout Uganda and the Rwenzori region specifically, people with disabilities remain compromised and a vulnerable group. The youth are more affected by the challenges which include discrimination and stigma by other community members. They struggle to integrate into societies and equally compete for the few available opportunities but they are always left out. Unfortunately, existing government programs to alleviate poverty in communities doesn't include people with disabilities fully.
Despite their disabilities they can fully engage in income generating activities, if only given the platform. The project will provide a balanced curriculum and activities which will facilitate learning about social responsibilities and finance literacy for youth with disabilities aged 15 to 32. Working with them through entrepreneurship and vocational skills. They will become job creators and making them relevant to the market needs of employment.
0ur project will offer skills, wisdom and knowledge. People with disabilities need to be skilled in a well- rounded inclusive curriculum. The program beneficiaries will become successful entrepreneurs, change makers and end the cycle of poverty among the disabled and their families.
