Thank you to all of you who have supported sitawi so far on the GlobalGiving Challenge! We're now only $570 away from earning a permanent spot on GlobalGiving and $11,570 from our total funding goal for this project.
Here are a few things that we've been up to at sitawi over the past few months. Enjoy reading about them and please check out our website for more news.
And thank you once again for your support!
Instituto Feira Preta is sitawi’s newest client
In October, sitawi provided a social loan to Instituto Feira Preta, an organization active nationally to promote the socio-cultural development of Afro-Brazilians and to foster entrepreneurship in the community. The loan of R$100,000 was made within the scope of our partnership with Artemisia and aims to anticipate the takings from the sale of stands at the fair organized by the organization every year.
sitawi receives certificate from the Banco do Brasil Foundation and is one of the finalists for the 2011 Award on Social Technology
The effectiveness of our methodology for third sector access to credit was recognized as a social technology by the Banco do Brasil Foundation and we competed in the 2011 Award on Social Technology as one of three finalists from the South-East region.
Social Entrepreneur and Future Social Entrepreneur Award winners to receive advice and coaching from sitawi
Psychologist Gisela Solymos, founder of the Centro de Recuperação e Educação Nutricional (Center for Recuperation and Nutritional Education, CREN-SP) was the 2011 winner of the Schwab Foundation – Folha de São Paulo Social Entrepreneur Award. Her initiative is aimed at recuperating undernourished and obese children and adolescents, and promoting nutritional education for all the family. She will receive four sitawi coaching sessions.
The winners of the Folha de São Paulo Future Social Entrepreneur are the surfers, Henrique Saraiva (32) and the couple Luana Nobre (27) and Phelipe Nobre (33). They started the Associação Adaptação e Surf (Adaption and Surf Association, Adaptasurf-RJ), which uses surfing to promote social inclusion and integration for people with physical, intellectual, sensorial or multiple disabilities. They will receive a two-week management-consulting project provided by sitawi free of charge.
