Koshi River floods in Eastern Nepal wreak havoc each year to more than 15 thousand livestock-based poor humans as well as animals leaving them behind without shelter, feed and other basic needs. 5 Shelters developed for disaster preparedness purpose will save and ease their sufferings in time of flood disaster.
Koshi floods hits occasionally in the settlements of poor, marginalized and livelihood based on livestock people. Both humans and animals are affected from the floods. People living in that area can not afford brick built their shelters. So they suffer in terms of health, nutrition, shelter and safety when flood hits them. Shelters constructed will provide to the poor and marginalized people a storage for feed, belongings, their animals and themselves in time of disasters
Brick built shelters constructed 3 to 4 meters above the ground with sufficient feed and belongings storage space, toilets, safe drinking water management and space for animals and humans accommodation will relive them from the calamity in terms of heath, nutrition, property savings and safety.
The shelters developed once will last forever at a nominal repair cost occasionally. The disadvantaged communities of Haripur, Shripur, Laukahi, Pascim Kusaha, Village Development committees (VDCs) of Sunsari and Siraha Districts of Nepal will be benefited from this. Above mentioned 4 VDCs hold a population of 25000, but the most affected with livestock-based livelihoods are 5000 with 6000 animals. Shelter development will save their livelihoods based on livestock at the time calamity.
