This project will build a shelter and a farming space providing a home and land to cultivate food/cash crops plus rear animals to 78 homeless young women and teen mothers in Nakawuka Uganda, all in a bid to change their paths in life for the better.
In a community with unemployment rates as high as 80% of the general population, most of this percentage comprising women, coupled with illiteracy, it is very hard to break through the poverty cycle. Child marriages and prostitution are options young women and women in general take to put food into their mouths, leaving the women at huge risks of sexually transmitted infections and teenagers are left stranded with babies. Our organization is in place with a solution for these vulnerable women.
The project offers and will offer shelter to vulnerable and homeless young women and their children in form of food, a bed, medical care, etc. While at the shelter, counselling is a must for every woman as the first step towards change and after this, there are preparations in place to teach the women different farming methods as they partake in growing food and rearing animals. The women also engage in learning small scale business management, beginner English, & reproductive health & hygiene.
We will train the 78 women at the shelter plus include the women in the community who may need empowerment, allowing then to take important steps out of poverty towards self sustainability . The proposed farm will also build a clean water well which will be utilised in the community for generations to come.
