She-Advance program will improve girls effective participation in decision making and leadership at school, household and community through a blended approach comprised of holiday centers where 100 girls are engaged in off school scheduled girl mentorships with motivational speeches and dialogue; Girls are encouraged to volunteer at community events and learn about the importance of giving back to the community.
The most marginalized girls in Kenya have traditionally been identified as coming from the ASAL (Arid /Semi-Arid Lands) regions. School enrolment in these areas is significantly lower whereby only 30% (Net Enrolment Ratio) of girls enter primary school, out of which only 16.5% complete this level of education. When it comes to Secondary enrolment, the representation of girls is minimal. These girls are affected due to a number of factors ranging from cultural and social barriers.
She-Advance project will organize Holiday Camps where girls will be involved in off school scheduled girl mentoring camps to avoid undergoing FGM, and Early Marriage during school holiday. Girls self-esteem will be raised through training on leadership and mentorship and they will develop healthy relationships among themselves. Motivational speakers, positive role models engaged to talk to girls.
The project will empower 100 girls to be resilient and live a dignified life. It will build the self esteem and overcome negative cultural practices.
