I hope you will enjoy the Summer Issue of our News Magazine “Setu Marches” which carries success stories. Volunteers, parents and of course our dedicated staff and their hard work is the backbone of these success stories.
This period also saw the first batch of our students passed class 10th and got admitted in different schools for higher education. It has taken us a long way to reach where we are and we still have to go a long way.
During the quarter April- June 2015 the Key Feature was new learning both for students and staff.
The Annual Summer Camp held from 10th May to 29th May 2015. This year the Summer Camp was very different. Our students learned to create best out of waste and created materials for fund raising from recycled products. They made napkin holder, coasters, fancy flowers and paper bags. Students also learned to write and enact skit and participated in the dances workshop. The IT Skill Center students learnt movie making and enjoyed a lot.
The focus during the quarter was also towards Staff Training with started off on 11th April 2015 with a workshop for all staff on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace. It was an eye opener for many members and gave a clear picture on behavioural practice at work place and finally ended with healthy interactive discussion.

Student’s corner Our stars and their achievements:
The New Year started with a good note. We had received new furniture for the whole school which was a long awaited wish of everyone, courtesy to Smile Foundation.
New Initiatives: Smile IT Project – STEP was launched on 23rd March 2015. It’s a six months course for skilling candidates who belong to lower socio economic group. Students will be given certificate of Microsoft. They will be trained on IT, English communication, Soft skills and retail and marketing. In one year 120 students will be certified through this course.
Inter School participation : Inter School Painting Competition was organised by Saksham Bharti on 8th Feb 2015 at Saraswati School, Nithari. Our students participated in that and two of our students won the prize. Nasir of class 7th got 3rd prize and Asif of Class 5 got 2nd prize in their respective categories. Our students were appreciated by the organisers on maintaining discipline. These competitions help students in their over all development. They get motivated and their self confidence also improves.
Inter School Sports competition was organised by Concen India Foundation on 14th Feb 2015. Our 20 students along with two staff went to Palam stadium. We also got volunteer support from Dalmia Bharat. Two employees from there joined the event to motivate our students. Yogesh and Raju won first prize in three legged race and again Yogesh won third prize in 100m race. Students had participated in all the competition with full enthusiasm. More than twenty NGOs participated in the event.
Events a School
Independence Day celebration: Function started by flag hosting by our Chief trustee, followed by cultural program. Students did amazing job, the whole program was organised by them including anchoring of the function under their teachers guidance.
Volunteers from RMSI came to Nithari center and distributed some gifts to students which they had collected to full fill students wish.
On 30th March volunteer from Birla Soft conducted workshop on Motivation (Think Beyond the boundaries). He had chosen class 7th and 8th for the session. Students gave very positive feed back about the workshop.
On Holi eve volunteers from Accretive health visited Setu School and spent time students. They gifted colours and “pichkari” to young ones.
Holi Milan was celebrated with trustees and employees of Octane Marketing. Students performed cultural program and it was appreciated by all. Students performed a skit that was directed and written by them and it was very well executed. Everybody had a great time with little ones.
World water Day was celebrated with volunteers from Dalmia Bharat Group. They spent about half a day with students and disseminated the information on importance and sources of water to senior classes and did water related activity with junior classes. They also helped us by donating some books for the new academic session.
Corporate Visits by Setu Students : Our students were invited by Birla Soft to celebrate Republic day with their employees. Our students performed patriotic songs and skit which were liked by them.
Health Camps and Awareness Programs
On 17th Jan 2015 Max India Foundation helped us in vaccinating our students with Hepatitis. They had organised a puppet show for students. Through it they conveyed the importance of healthy food and healthy habits. It was very catchy; students enjoyed the show and at the same time learned from it.
Haemoglobin test for Setu students were organised by Sandesham and Amity Students. Students who were found anaemic were given iron frying pans and medicine. Class teachers use to do follow up with them. The motive behind this was to increase the haemoglobin level so that students will also show improvement in retention span and in concentration level in the class.
On Cancer Awareness day,4th Feb, knowledge sessions were taken in Nithari School and all other skilling centres with our beneficiaries. Along with the session pink ribbon was distributed to all the audience.

Hope you will enjoy reading this magazine. This quarter was very eventful and hectic too. Being festive season of Dushera, Diwali and Christmas, we celebrated all at Setu and had enjoyed with young children and hope our volunteers too had a great time being with us.
Setu Diwali Mela: Like every year this year also we had a big gathering at Setu School for Diwali Mela on 18th October. Senior students and teachers managed the show. We had volunteers from Met Life, Birla Soft and Dalmia Bharat Ltd. They all participated in Mela with full interest and tried to make it full enjoyable for our students. It’s a most awaited event for our students. They are involved in games and decoration which gives them sense of responsibility and they learn while doing it.
Children day cum Annual day: Setu celebrated its Annual day cum children’s day on 15th Nov. Function started by lightening of the lamp by our chief guest Ms. Kusum Bhatt, Mr. Arun Agarwal and Principal Indira Kaul along with young students of class nursery. With inspiring and confident anchoring done by Ritu and Sujata of class IX program started with vandana followed by dances and action songs from junior classes and skit and dances by elder ones. Students from all classes participated in this event. Everybody got a chance to show their talents.
After cultural program award ceremony started. Houses were given trophy on their performance basis. Through out the year each house was given marks and on that basis Quartz house took the rolling trophy followed by Emerald house and Sapphire and Topaz house.
Master Atul Excellence Award of the academic year 2013-14 was given to Neelam of class VIII, Neha of class VI and Kiran of class 1st. Finally the teachers also performed for the student’s entertainment.
Christmas celebration at Setu: We celebrated Christmas on 23rd December 2014 at Setu. Fancy dress competition was organised for juniors while senior students performed on the topics given to them. All participants did marvellous job. distributed sweets to all the students and everybody enjoyed the ocassion.
Airtel Marathon: On 23rd November Setu employees participated in Airtel marathon. They all participated with full enthusiasm. It was more like an outing for all of us.
Health Camps : With the help of Max India Foundation we were able to immunise our students with typhoid, Hepatitis B 1 and 2. Camps were organised on 11th Nov, 2nd December and 16th December. We are thankful to Max Foundation for helping our students.
Corporate Activities: Our students were invited by Dalmia Bharat on 1st October on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti celebration at their Noida office. Our students had prepared a skit on Gandhi’s ideology and its scenario in present time. It was appreciated by all the employees. Such events give our students a platform to showcase their talents.
Students were invited at IBN 7 and Dell Noida for diwali celebration. Our students performed dances and enjoyed with their employees. Diwali gifts were given to our students.
Activities conducted by Corporate at Setu : Sports day was organised by Dell for school students. They had conducted three legged race, lemon race, and frog race for junior classes, musical chair and relay race for senior classes. Students were given prizes at the end of the event. All students participated with full interest and teachers were also equally participative
PVR conducted workshop for our students on Health and Hygiene on 3rd and 4th Nov for class 7th and 8th. They were taught through activities like collage making, poster making and paintings. Students expressed their views through these activities.
Ladies from Sandesham visited Setu on 13th Nov on the occasion of Children’s day. They had invited Amity students for the function. Amity students also performed a skit on healthy food habits. Our students were happy to interact them. Our students performed cultural program for them.
Adventure Camp: On 16th November our 10 students and one teacher went for adventure camp to Aligarh. The whole trip was sponsored by Mr. Arun Agarwal resident of sector 31, Noida. He took initiative in organising the event with the support of his friends and RWA of sector 31. They started at 8.30 in the morning by bus and came back by 6.00 in the evening. Activities included bullock cart ride, camel ride, wall climbing, rope climbing and many more. Children participated very enthusiastically and they also shared their feeling and said, “This is our best Sunday of our life. We will never forget this moment”. They didn’t want to come back.
Workshops: On 29th November 2014 workshop on presentation Skills was conducted by our chief trustee Mr. Ravi Kaul, for school teachers. It was one day workshop in which they were given inputs on how to improve their presentation skills. A Maths workshop was organised by Smile Foundation on 18th and 19th Dec at Delhi. Our senior maths teacher Ms. Nibedita Behra attended the workshop. She learnt how to use maths kit provided by them. Its Jodo gyan kit which is very simple to use for maths concepts. Now Nibedita madam will be taking it forward and train our school teachers.
Inter School participation:
Setu students participated in a drawing competion held at Noida stadium on 28th November. Students won first and third prize in the competition.
School Volunteering: In this quarter Mayoor School visit was organised for five times. On 7th Nov they came for Maths activity, on 11th November they came for Eng activity, on 5th December they came for social studies and 12th and 18th December they came for science activity.
On 14th November 200 students from Ramagya School visited Setu School. They interacted with our students. It was one to one interaction. It was for the first time they came to our school. We also participated in their Christmas carnival.
On 20th December our students went to Shri Ram Millennium School for Heritage Fair. Class VIII and IX students along with social science teacher Ms. Manisha Pandey went for this educational trip. They get an opportunity to see how fairs are organised along with knowledge they gained from there.
Mayoor School invited our 20 students for their Christmas carnival. Our two teachers accompanied them. Our KG students performed a dance at the carnival which was appreciated by all the audience and they wanted to repeat the show. Students enjoyed the rides and food at Mayoor School.
Special thanks to Mayoor School for supporting us in getting furniture for our new building. Their students contributed for the cause through “Paint for Setu”. Students from class 1st to 8th participated in painting competition. They were judged 1st, 2nd and 3rd class wise and medals and certificates were given to them.
Setu Newsletter – Autumn Edition
This quarter was fully dedicated for students well being. We had organised lot of health check up camps, immunisation camps and follow up sessions for the same. Along with studies it’s very essential to take care of their overall growth. We hope you will enjoy reading our school activities. Health Camps at Setu:
8th July 2014- Vaccination – organised by Max Foundation : 86 students were vaccinated on this day. With the support of Max foundation we are able to immunise our students. Our sincere thanks to them
30th July Eye Check Up camp was organised by Chetna Club ladies with the support of I Care Hospital. Total 216 students were examined. 16 students have to re visit the hospital for follow up session. Follow up check up at I Care hospital : Our 16 students went for follow up check up at I Care hospital on 26th August. Few of them were suggested specs and two of them have been asked for further check ups.
Workshop for teenager girls : Lady from Software & Gamble Company came to conduct a workshop on personal hygiene for girls during their menstrual cycle.
Dental Check up camp: On 11th September Dental check camp was organised with the support of Chetna club Noida. Total 148 students were examined on that day. Our sincere thanks to them.
Vaccination by Max Foundation: On 12th September students were vaccinated against typhoid. Total 88 students were vaccinated.
Events at Setu
Visit by Sandesham :On 18th July 2014, group of ladies from Sandesham came and conducted poem recitation competition was organised from class 1st to 4th and slogan writing competition from class 5th onwards. They also donated some stationary items for school.
A Teachers training was organised by OM Foundation on 19th July. It was a follow up workshop of June. On 22nd July they organised a workshop on teachers attended the work shop, it was on CCE pattern.
Independence Day celebration on 15th August 2014 started with flag hosting by our chief trustee and followed by cultural program. The anchoring was done by students and it was very well coordinated. Children from all age groups performed different programs like, poems, skit, group dances and at the end of the program they asked few questions based on the occasion. At last some snacks were distributed amongst the students.
On 20th August 2014 at the HCL talent fest our students were invited to perform a dance as an inaugural show. It was an internal function of HCL. Our students were appreciated by their employees. This type of events give our students encouragement to do well and this helps in their over all development.
22nd August 2014 a Science Exhibition was organised in which three Schools participated and four schools came as visitors. This was for the first time we had an interschool exhibition. It was inaugurated by Mayoor school teacher. Setu students had really worked hard for this. Pre- Primary students also showed small experiments along with senior students who made working models. All models were appreciated by the visitors. This exhibition gave students a lot of confidence and knowledge on science.
Teachers Day: Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu Guru Devo Maheshwara this is the day when students express their regards towards their teachers. Like any other school our students also celebrated the day with full enthusiasm. Senior students played teacher’s role and the teachers had good time among themselves. Management had organised some interesting activities for them. It was a great day and everybody enjoyed a lot.
On 15th September puppet show was organised by PVR nest on happy children and happy children. The theme was to make them understand about the importance of healthy food and some basic cleanliness. It was followed by a doctor’s talk on the same topic to make it more effective. Students participated in that very actively.
On 30th September our 12 students went to Dalmia to perform skit on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti celebration at their premises. Teachers had prepared skit on Gandhiji’s Dreams and principals in today’s scenario. It was appreciated by them.
Mayoor School Visit on 25th July : Class 4th students along with Maths teacher came to our school and students from both the schools worked together and on 30th August 2014 Class 6th students went to Mayoor School for science smart class along with two teachers. After the smart class their teachers interacted with our students and they were impressed by our student’s performance.
Our Students Corner
Meet Ishrat : Isharat, was in class 4th when she joined Setu. Her father, Md. Aslam is a driver and mother, Qusar Parveen is a house - wife. According to her teacher she is good in studies. Her interest is in reading, Drawing and singing. After school she does household work. According to her class teacher she is very regular in school and comes very neat and clean. Her mother takes interest in her studies. She attends all the PTMS and tries to understand her child’s progress.In the academic year 2013-2014 she was in class VIII and secured 81% marks and promoted to class IX. In this academic year she has participated in almost every activities what school had organized like Drawing competition, Handwriting competition, debate competition, Independence day , Rakhi making, clay moulding, show and tell, She says I like school as it has changed my personality. She tries to communicate in English. In future her aim is to become a doctor.
Meet Neha : Neha joined Setu in class Nursery. Her parents are Rajesh and Indu.In the academic year 2013-14 she was in class 3rd. In this session she secured 94.37% marks and stood 1st in the class. According to her Class Teacher she is very regular and Punctual in School and comes very neat and clean. She is very active child and participates in all school activities. On seeing her confidence level and commanding voice she became an anchor in republic day function. On her performance every body was amazed as such an early age she has done a marvellous job. She is very happy to be at Setu. In the academic year 2014-15 she is in class 4th. Her parent also takes interest in her studies. Neha says she wants to complete her education from Setu School.
This Academic session started with lots of hope, exhilaration and challenges. This year our first batch of students is appearing for Class X Board Examination. Lot of efforts are being made by teachers as well as students to achieve good results. As we move on the responsibilities also increases however when we work as a team with common goal things become easier. Teachers have been attending workshops and visiting different schools to gain more practical knowledge so that the Learning can be passed on to the students.
During the Quarter Aadhaar cards are being made by Setu at different places in Noida and Ghaziabad, like RWA, Corporate offices, factories and in schools. It’s a different approach to serve our society.
We have lot of different activities during this quarter. I hope you will enjoy reading our achievements.
Immunisation camp was organised by Max Hospital for Setu students on 15th April. Students were vaccinated with Hepatitis B. Over 100 students benefited thru this drive.
Global Earth day – ASpecial assembly wasorganised to celebrate Global Earth Day. Teachers shared some thoughts and students enacted skits on the theme. The idea behind it was to make students sensitive towards this issue.
Road Safety Workshop: On 25th April our team went to PVR Plaza for a program where they saw a documentary film on safety rules. Students of 20 different schools had visited there to attend the ceremony. Chief Guest, CEO, Director and guests shared their experiences on road accidents.
Visit to Mayoor School for Smart Classes: On 3rd May two teachers and 15 students visited Mayoor School for smart class on Environment Studies. Students learnt about bones, joints, muscles and photosynthesis through projector. They learnt and enjoyed smart class at Mayoor. After the session teacher revised the topic by asking different questions. Students were able to answer them all. Mayoor teacher was impressed with Setu students.
Students of Mayoor School visited our school for an English activity with class 8th and a social studies activity with class 4th. They spend about an hour with our students and their teacher taught with different activities. This is the time when students interact with each other and work in groups. Through this interchange program we are trying to bring students close to each other.
Spring Fest at HCL- On 24th May our students participated in the HCL spring fest. They performed group dances, puppet show and a skit on environment. Program was inaugurated with our students welcome song. There were many NGO schools who participated in the function. Our students were appreciated by all audience.
One of our volunteer Ms. Beena who is a theatre person, personally guided our students in enacting skits. The concept was developed by teachers and grooming part was done by Ms. Beena. We are thankful for her support and guidance.
Summer camp 12th May 2014 – 27th May 2014 : Summer camp for students is organised with the thought that students will learn some skills during the summer break time. Students are divided into small groups according to their interest. Some of them went for group dance, some learnt best out of waste and one group was involved in making paper bags, students who are interested in painting they painted diyas. Many students participated in the Skill based program in Hand Embroidery and Sewing Machine Skills. All Students enjoyed the event and the learning thru different activities.
Teachers Workshop: Meditation workshop for teachers was organised by Mrs. Divya. Teachers were taught to keep calm and concentrate in daily life. The session was for one hour and it was appreciated by all the teachers.
Summer training and Volunteering : During their Summer Vacation students of The IIS University, Jaipur enrolled with Setu for their summer training. They were involved in student’s case studies, making teaching aids for pre primary classes, conducting classes independently. They worked with full enthusiasm and sincerity. On completion of their training they were awarded Volunteering Certificates.
Skilling Centers at Gijhore and Nithari centers – ISDS centers
In the month of April 2014 Setu started two more ISDS centers in Noida, one at Nithari and the other Gijhore. In both the centers we are having two courses one in Hand Embroidery and the other one in Sewing. With 25 students in each course enrolled and they get training for four hours a day for 45 days. After completion of the course they appear for exam and get certificates from Ministry of Textile.
During this quarter our 47 students got certified at Behrampur center and 174 students at Salarpur. All of them completed the course successfully and they are ready to get jobs in garment industry.
