Hi,

It may surprise you to know that pork (pig meat) is the most widely consumed meat in the world, followed by chicken and beef. Surprised, right?

This is really interesting, inUganda alone, 75% of the population consumes pork, and yet there are few pig farms in the country, there fore venturing in piggery farming is venturing in real gold.

This project began small, and has started growing bigger, right now, it has employed 2 youth from the village where we operate, it has also supplied four piglets to 2 households to enable them boost their family income as well as cater for childrens school requirements.

Jane is a full-time housewife experiencing money troubles, she takes care of 5 children, 3 grand children and 2 belonging to her,she has benefited from 2 piglets to enable her begin piggery farming. She already had a pig house in place which she started with 1local piglet.

Starting with local pig breeds,Jane saw the potential and advantages of foreign exotic breeds and eventually asked us to support her with 2 from our farm. These exotic breeds could grow up to a size of 500kg (compared to only 20kg for local breeds) and sold for much higher prices on the market

Schools near by are using this farm to teach children how to real pigs as well as book keeping.

You are not only impacting children in a home, but also impacting the whole community when you give to this piggery project.

Hi,

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, we celebreated ours with lots of fun, we had some pork chops, drinks and rice, thank you for your help.

One of the things we are embarking on this year is real establishment of strong income generating projects, and one of it will be to sell the pork fats, pork fats are used to make soap and other products, the community will be using them as well as other companies around the place, another source is through training community members and other organizations to rear pigs for commercial purposes, the companies will be paying us some ammount for facilitators and the venue, this is expected to boost on the sponsorship and donation money.

All this success is counted on your support, your monthly giving counts alot, you made Sharon go to school last year and she is soon completing her nursing course, you made Gerald complete his scondary school education, you created impact in the whole community where we work, heaps.

Hello

I hope this finds you well, the project you are funding is doing better, altohugh there was a break down on swine fever, only 2 pigs died, fortunately the veterinary officer was just near here, every thing went on well, all the pilets received the best treatment in town and now look healthy.

This Christmas the community will have pork, most families prefer pork chops for breakfast and lunch, there is ready market for the pork this feastive season, even the families in the city will pick some pork, and the butcheries will also need alot during the festive season, we are blessed to be having some for sale by then.

This amazing project will then be able to pay tuition and school fees for the children in school, other funds will go to the sanitary pads making project, here we plan to purchase a sewing machine that will be used by the children to make their own sanitary towels in the village. When you support a project supported by Mountains of Hope, you help impact on the community in need.

Thanks for the support

“We have maintained a parent stock of 10 pigs,” each pig can produces 15 to 20 piglets every year.

“We sell each piglet at $33. This is indicative of how high modern farming can uplift society, and if every household in our community could do this as a business, every household daily income would increase.”- James, Project Leader

Although exotic pigs consume about 20% more food than local breeds, the heaviest weighs up to 300kg compared to 100kg, the maximum weight for local breeds.

A kilogram of pork costs between $3, in the urban area. We are able to use the proceeds from the venture to educate children and help the community with basic needs.

We urgently need to raise money for the installation of a 500 liter water to ease harvesting of rain water to sustain the pigs. The workers are currently having to get water from a well outside the farm on bicycles involving several runs a day and this can be very tough in the hot dry season.

We also need to purchase a small pick up truck to help with transportation of produce, feed, vet runs and any other farm work.

Here are responses from people who have visited the farm:

hey i want those exotic breeds-Juliet

Allen contacted us online:Hey my name is Allen am interested in those exotic breeds how much do you sell piglets of two months you can contact me on this on……. or my email adress is ……@Yahoo.com i will appreciate it so much waiting for your reply thanks in advance.

This seems to be a promising business of which if more funds are added, can really sustain the home and the community at large.

Thank you for continuously donating to this particular project, I appreciate your help.
