This project will help us with the care of our older horses. Some of them require special senior feed, supplements and more frequent visits by the veterinarian. We currently care for 400 rescued horses! We provide training and adoption to those that are suitable and sanctuary for those that have suffered too much and deserve to live a life as close to freedom as we can give. They are able to roam over the 1000 acres of Wild Horse Canyon sanctuary.
Every year more than 150,000 horses are sent to slaughter. Their final destination will be a dinner plate overseas after being butchered either in Mexico or Canada. These horses were once someone's pet, a race horse that no longer won large purses, an unwanted by-product of Premarin (hormone replacement therapy) production or a Mustang that was removed from its natural habitat.
We save slaughter bound horses, both domestic and wild. We offer a safe new home with training and adoption to those horses that are adoptable and sanctuary to those that have endured too much cruelty and deserve to live out the rest of their lives in retirement. This problem will not be solved but you can help to make huge difference in the lives of those horses that are saved.
Our long-term goal is to consolidate our two locations. We are in the process of moving our operations from our Lancaster ranch up to our Caliente ranch.
