Our organization has already sent three 40ft shipping containers of lifesaving medial product to Syrian Refugee camps in Turkey. We are hoping to send at least three more by the end of 2014. Over 75% of Syrian refugees are women and children. In the refugee camps disease spreads quickly and there is a desperate need for supplies. We're doing our part by providing lifesaving medial supplies to the hardworking medical staff in the refugee camps and need funding to send additional supplies.
More than 2.4 million Syrians have fled the violence of their civil war, many of them living in refugee camps in neighboring countries. The UN estimates this number could nearly double by the end of the year. Advocates for World Health sent their first container of supplies to help Syrian refugees through the Turkish Red Crescent. However, the magnitude of the crisis requires so much more. AWH is making Syria their priority through 2014 in hopes to send 3 or more containers with your help.
Our organization sends customized containers full of medial supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics assisting with the refugee crisis in Syria. We work closely with the Turkish Red Crescent to ensure the supplies are reaching their intended destination and saving lives. Advocates for World Health has been supplying medical product around the world for almost five years and sees the Syrian Crisis as a place where product is desperately needed.
In supplying three or more containers of medical product to hospitals and clinics thousands of refugees will be able to receive basic medial care and lives will be saved. While we hope the Syrian people will be able to return home soon and the war come to a close, we know that this medical product will provide them with the access to healthcare that they so desperately need.
