Unfortunately, the funding goal wasn’t met to send the team to the Norway Cup. It is disappointing, since the team, their parents, and CFK staff worked so hard to prepare and raise funds. The price tag of the trip was just too high… but in the spirit of Kibera, they are staying focused on their good progress. The team is looking forward to next year and already starting to plan for it.
Despite the trip’s cancellation, the boys and their parents were not discouraged. Getting birth certificates and passports in an area where very few records are kept was a feat in its own right. This was just one of the small accomplishments made in preparing for the Norway Cup. Another was the level of engagement the parents had in their sons’ preparation for this trip. They were entirely supportive and went out of their way to help get legal documents in order for the boys.
After it was announced that the team wouldn’t make the trip, the coaches decided to use the funds to hold a small retreat for the team. The coaches plan to work with the team over the next year to help them improve their teamwork and skills as they set their sights on the tournament for next year.
