Happy New Year!

The Purple Feet Foundation had a really incredible 2016, thanks in large part to your support.  As we look forward to a 2017 full of opportunity, we wanted to share some of the highlights from last year so you know the impact your support is making.

#thinc2016
We hosted the seventh year of our thinc Program and saw positive results in our post-program survey.  We investigate student perceptions of themselves as learners (My Feelings) and student perceptions of their academic and professional future (My Expectations).  Student camper ratings for both “My Feelings” and “My Expectations” increased following participation in this year's thinc Program.  Additionally, we learned that our kids love swimming and carnivals, but they also enjoy computer programming, dance, culinary arts, and fashion design.

Literacy Club
Through our partnership with Cabrini University, we connect college students with our middle schoolers for a virtual book club.  This fall we read "The One and Only Ivan" together.  All of the kids loved the story, but they really enjoyed the times our college students were able to drop by in-person to read with them.

Service Learning
The eighth graders were in charge of this year's service project, and they came up with a powerful idea.  We created a cookbook for kids and sold them during the fall.  We used the proceeds to make a donation to the Central PA Food Bank.  We raised $1,280 which will provide 7,680 meals to neighbors in our community.

These are just a few of the highlights from an amazing year.  Thank you so much for all you did to support our kids in exploring new possibilities for their futures.

Love,

Martha and Lance

We started the Purple Feet Foundation to help at-risk kids explore the possibilities that exist for their futures. This summer we hosted our seventh thinc program. We accepted sixty students this year who have the opportunity to return for three consecutive years leading into high school.  We also work with the PFF kids throughout the school year through a wonderful partnership with Cabrini University.  We're very proud of the kids and the program.

And we're very thankful to our PFFBFFs.

"Thank you! Because of you I made memories I can't forget."

"I would like to thank the donors for allowing me to have this awesome experience. I've made friends, learned new things, and have became a better person and it's all because of YOU. Thank you!"

"I would like to say to all the donors that made this possible thank you so much for caring and loving us so much to pay for us to come to purple feet this year. It was really fun. All of us feel very special to have an opportunity like this. It was awesome! Thank you so much."

"People who donated I want to let yu know that all of you are a part of the Purple Feet Family, and I will always remember you.  Thank you so much."

"THANK YOU SO MUCH......WE HAD SO MUCH FUN. I PROMISE THAT YOU DID NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY."

"THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I really enjoyed PFF and would like to continue coming in the next two years. I am so glad I was able to come, and I really want to thank the people who helped make this all happen."

Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of some really amazing kids.

Seven years ago we started the Purple Feet Foundation by bringing eight students to a week-long summer camp in Valley Forge, PA.  Through a lot of support over the years we now accept sixty students for that same summer camp, now called the thinc program.  The kids have the opportunity to return for three consecutive years leading into high school and work with us throughout the school year.  We continue to see tremendous results.

Here's what a few of the kids had to say when applying for this year's thinc program:

"When things are hectic at home or you just want to get away Purple Feet always does the trick. You can be yourself and talk to people and we always learn new things. I look forward every year for that one week when we get to go out to places and just have fun and not worry about school . Plus they're always there, they care, they're helpful, and they want us to keep going and be something in life. They're a second family."

"Being part of the Purple Feet Foundation means that I am part of a family. A family that cares about each other, helps each other, builds with each other, and has fun with each other."

"It means a lot to me because at my house I don't really do anything in the summer which is sad for me because I really want to do things instead of being in the house all summer. But my real reason is because I really like how they helped me out last summer. It was a big big help towards me and my mom last summer."

Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of some really amazing kids.

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner it’s the perfect time to tell you how much we love you for supporting the Purple Feet Foundation (PFF).

Together we are making a positive impact on the lives of so many kids. Our data show us that PFF kids have more positive feelings about school and increased expectations for the future after being part of our programs.

In the “thinc” program we explore careers, learn about college, and talk about choices. Another word that begins with c that our kids demonstrated this holiday season is compassion. Together we collected books for fifth graders and delivered them to 15 different classrooms just in time for the holidays.

We continue to work with the PFF kids throughout the year. Next week we are kicking off another after-school virtual book club where students from Cabrini College read with fifth graders and discuss the book online.

Thank you again for your kindness and generosity!

Thanks to your love and support there are no tricks, just treats for the students in the Purple Feet Foundation (PFF) this fall.  Here's how you are impacting the lives of our PFF kids in so many ways.

Our sixth thinc program was the first time we were able to bring three different groups of students (7th, 8th and 9th graders) together for the week.  Every student had a special trip, project or memorable moment.  Here are just a few of them:

"I loved the hovercrafts we did because all of us 8th graders were teaching the 7th graders how to make them. Last year we did some of the things that the 7th graders did, and I really liked teaching the 7th graders.  I liked how it felt to be a teacher."

"Coding was my favorite session because it was fun, and I want to be a programmer in the future."

"I liked Culinary Arts because we learned about a lot of new and different food and how to make it. We tasted a lot of different food that I have never tasted in my life. It was also pretty cool because I got to cook with someone that knows how to cook food from all over the world."

"My favorite trip was "Cape May" because I like the beach and seeing the horseshoe crabs everywhere."

The impact we are seeing through our research is really positive.

  • Student camper index ratings for feelings about school and for future expectations increased following their involvement in the thinc program.
  • Increases in these index ratings were seen disproportionately for those that were in their third year attending camp as well as those who scored lowest on a rating of school engagement during the previous year.
  • The greatest gains in agreement were made for statements including “I am good at science,” “I see myself as a leader,” “People recognize when I try my best," and “I expect to attend school after I finish high school.”

We are continuing to work with the PFF kids throughout the year and cannot thank you enough for your kindness in making all of this possible. Check out what's new with the Purple Feet Foundation through our donor report and by following us on Facebook.

Thank you again!
