Stop Child Labour through Education

About the Organisation: Sugam Jagriti is a registered Social humanitarian organisation working with the aim "To establish a self reliant and equal society with the value of peace, equity, Justice and homogeneity''. Sugam Jagriti work for the betterment of poor people regardless of religion, caste, race, ethnicity or gender.

Sugam Jagriti is Registered Under Societies Registration Act 21/1860, Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) by Ministry of Home Affairs, Income Tax Exemption u/s 12A & 80G Focus on Children:

It focuses on development of community resource persons through training and exposure to manage their programmes in their communities. Communities co-invest with them and donors by for the programmes, deciding and implementing them. They involve Community Based Organizations (CBOs), PRI, corporates and individuals throughout the world as partners and supporters of integrated development in Bihar.

SUGAM JAGRITI has been initiated with mission To Create Awareness in the social life to establish exploitation less, Injustice less, Classless, uniform and self reliant society. Objective of the Programme: The main objective of this programme is to reach up to the Children of labourers and challenged children and help them in association with formal education and there after making them skilled and self sufficient. Child labourers as well as challenged children on different types of labour work all require a strong base in education and access to quality education. In case of school dropouts parents and children need to be continuously counseled and encouraged to go back to school. The education programs designed at SUGAM JAGRITI recognize this need and aim to bridge this gap.

Impact:  We have mainstreamed 54 child labour Children with education through Child Labour Special School . We have provided School Uniform, School Bag, Stationary, Shoes for those Child Labour Children. Organizing sensitization meeting with Parents & Community

SUGAM JAGRITI work on issues that requires intensive intervention and relates to mainstreaming child labour and challenged children with education, support to Disable Child, women empowerment, health and varied aspects of development among the rural communities in Bihar (India). We have partnered with GlobalGiving, in putting forth this donation platform that caters to specific needs of the children. Case Studies

Name: Komal Kumari (Name Changed), Age: 11 years,  Father’s Name – Naresh Paswan.

Komal Kumari is living in village Karhara -Gaya with their parents. Due to deep poverty parents were not able to continue education of children .  Komal Kumari  started labour work at village along with her mother and her sister. During the field work of the Organization  they came into contact and narrated their present status to them. Field worker of SUGAM JAGRITI then met their mother and convince her to send them to education center. After regular counseling mother agreed to send Komal Kumari to the education center. Children were school drop out so Organisation field Staff took initiative and meet with teachers at nearby school and convinced for enrollment of children for continued education. Teacher finally agreed and they were enrolled into Child Labour Special School . They say "we are quite happy with school because teachers assist children and are very good and there are lots of friend here", says Komal Kumari .

Case Study Name: Kusum Kumari (Name Changed) Age: 11 years

During the field visit organization staffs met with Kusum Kumari and his family members. During the interactions with family members it came out that she is not going to school and engaged in Labour work with parents . Her parents was not conscious for education. In such circumstances organization staffs asked parents to put her in education center. After regular counseling they agreed to send her to a education Center. Kusum Kumari had no touch with study hence was not ready to sit in the class for first few days but slowly she got interested in kind of teaching and activities other children were doing in the class. Her attendance in the education center gradually improved . Regular touch with same aged children and care and guidance of teacher made him more punctual and disciplined child. Now she is going to school regularly. Now she and parents say " I am really thankful to Donor, GlobalGiving & Sugam Jagriti for the kind of effort they have put into my child's education".

Case Study Beneficiary Details Name; Nagina Kumar (Name Changed) Age; 12 Years, Father’s Name- Kamlesh Paswan,  Village; Karhara, Block: Khizarsarai, Distt- Gaya (Bihar)

Nagina Kumar is with age of 12 years. He was involved with father in stone breaking. In the rest time Nagina Kumar was involved in stone breaking, goat rearing and playing with children. Father and mother of Nagina Kumar are illiterate and have never attended school. In childhood parents enrolled Nagina Kumar in the nearest govt. school, but he never attended the school. The teachers as well as parents were not serious on education of Mr. Kumar. When grown up, Nagina Kumar started helping parents and parents made him responsible for family bread earning through involving in goat rearing, bringing breakfast and fooding for parents at work place, caring children, picking stones etc. During field Visit, Organisation staff met with Nagina Parents and motivated them for education of Nagina Kumar. finally by effort of organisation staff, Mr. Nagina Kumar enrolled in child labour Special School-Kodihar-Gaya (Bihar). In the initial days parents were not willing to send Mr. Kumar in the school because parents have to complete the work that they had assigned to Nagina Kumar. But due to regular effort of the Organization Nagina Kumar started attending the school regularly. There is no provision of school dress and shoes at child labour Special School. Due to poverty parents were not able to fulfill the requirement of clothing to Nagina Kumar for put on. Nagina Kumar used old and turn out dress and go to school. Due to absence of cloth Nagina Kumar could not attend the school several times. His confidence also decreased as children from higher strata family looks him with second eye. It also effected his study. Through GlobalGiving provided support in forms of school dress, bag and shoes. It improved the regularity of Nagina Kumar at school and also parents are with improved confidence. It has improved the confidence and eagerness of Nagina Kumar towards education.

There is great change of children hope, enthusiasm and confidence with the help of GlobalGiving and You. Now Parents say that their dream of Nagina Kumar is true with school dress, bag, shoe. For this kind initiative we express our gratitude to GlobalGiving and Donors.
