RAAPS-UK plans to build this year six classrooms in the Bandundu province to provide free education for orphan and abandoned children who are victims of every day wars and abuse in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Also providing the children with free meals, uniforms and their own dormitories together with their library within the school containing books, journals and literacy support services to those affected by wars and abuses.
The civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo has caused and continue to cause great insecurity. People are fleeing Eastern Congo. Many are children who have lost their parents, homes and chance of a normal life. Instead of a life on the streets, RAAPS-UK aims to provide a school and home (dormitories) to be a place where they can learn, be safe and become part of the solution for their community.
We will build a primary school for children up to 18 years old together with dormitory living space and facilities for sports and games. By providing education and opportunities for social activities we will prevent children following a life of crime on the streets or becoming victims of crime themselves. $50,000 will allow us to complete the school building as phase 1 of our project
The school will provide education for around 300 children up to the age of 18 years. The project will give the opportunity for these children to grow safely and contribute to their own well-being and that of their community. In the longer term, with our partner RAAPS-DRC charity , we will support older young people(mostly laddies) and widows who have fled insecure areas...
