Environmental education is extremely important, especially in today's age. Ensuring that new generations understand the importance and significance of the environment, and how to protect it, is important as the survival of the world is dependent upon it. It also provides important opportunities for students to become engaged in real-world issues that transcend classroom walls.
It is estimated that by 2030, the world population of 7 billion will demand twice as many resources as the planet can supply. Meeting the needs of our global citizenry both ecologically, economically, culturally and more requires understanding and creative problem-solving. And as our environment changes, so does the need to become increasingly aware of the problems that surround it.
The program will create a platform for environmental awareness among young people. Young people will be given the opportunity to make a real difference to their own quality of life, their local community as well as contributing to the future well-being of the planet. The program will be implemented using the following strategy: Teachers Capacity Building Training, Student Peer Learning Meeting and the Young Environmental Exhibition and Awards
By the end of the program, the following key outcomes will be achieved: awareness of environmental challenges and issues, increase in knowledge and understanding of the environment, improvement in attitudes and concern for the environment, increase in skills to identify and help resolve environmental challenges, participation in activities that lead to the resolution of environmental challenges and integration of environmental education teaching in schools.
