Kato-san, The President of the Sendai YMCA International Hotel and Pastry School, tells us that that our five scholarship students are doing well and all students are healthy! They will have a graduation ceremony next week on the 10th of March.
Kato-san says, “All of the Scholarship students will start a new life around Japan. Thank you for your two years of support.”
Please see the video messages from each of our 2021-2022 scholarship students!
Kato-san tells us, “Next year, there are only ten new students. Covid-19 affects a terrible situation in the hotel and tourism business, and many international students couldn't enter Japan for two years.”
Many of the students need scholarships to attend the Sendai YMCA International Hotel and Pastry School because of economic hardships, some caused by the 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, and lately because of the pandemic they lost the chance to work after school. The Sendai YMCA and TAMF provide these scholarships jointly.
Thank you for the support you have given these students. It is your help which makes it possible for them to pursue their chosen careers.

Kato-san, The President of the Sendai YMCA International Hotel and Pastry School, shares a message from six Taylor Scholarship students from late March who speak of their experiences as their school year begins.
This year we have 20 students receiving the Taylor Scholarship to be used in both the Hotel and Confectionary studies. The addition of international students to the school help the local students supported by the scholarships to learn English and other languages and cultures from their peers.

Footprints and Footsteps 3.11 and the Future of Tohoku - March 5-11
This is an online event to look back at the events of March 11, 2011, and efforts to recover and rebuild in the 10 years since. Featuring a number of documentaries focusing on those affected by the disasters arising out of the events of that day, both Japanese and non-Japanese, especially JET Program participants and alumni, we will look back from this ten-year mark to remember what happened, and look at today and tomorrow to get a sense of what has been accomplished and what the future holds.
We are also collecting messages and memories on our Facebook page. We will keep you updated with the latest information about the film screening event.
