Afro-Tech Girls wants to raise the sum of $5,000 towards a scholarship fund for female STEM undergraduates. Our goal is to be able to award over 20 recipients funds towards the completion of their education, acquisition of the tools such as laptops and access to power and data.
Globally, women make up only 35% of STEM graduates, a figure stagnant for a decade. In Nigeria, the disparity is worse, with just 22% female STEM graduates. Societal norms discourage women from rigorous STEM careers, viewing them as male domains. High costs of STEM courses, lack of financial support, and inadequate access to tools like laptops and reliable power further limit women's participation, hindering progress toward SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).
This project will focus on supporting 30 female students who are in universities and polytechnics across Nigeria. This is a follow up from the Afro-Tech Girls Project 100 for 20 scholarship in which we raised N100,000 NGN (~$250) for 20 girls. That project provided funds for 20 ladies across Nigeria in 2024. We will be continuing on in our drive to support the increase of the pipeline of female STEM graduates across Nigeria reaching at least 30 well deserving girls in 2025 by raisi
This project empowers 30 young women in Nigeria with scholarships and tools to pursue STEM education, increasing the pipeline of female STEM graduates. It aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure). By breaking gender barriers and fostering innovation, it drives sustainable development and inspires future generations of women in STEM across Nigeria.
