Jurado is one of the poorest towns in Colombia. The people there are inmerse in the war conflict (Guerrillas) and narcotrafic routes. Their children growing up between poverty and fear, however they have a candle in the night: Sea Turtles. Some School teachers and local leaders are working to engage kids in a project to save Sea Turtles. Their beaches are the home of 5 species, that nest 100 eggs by clutch. But some people in the town are poaching these eggs and put in risk the future of turtles
This project will provide resources to build a Hatchery with better technical specifications that the actual facility. Also we want to improve the School conditions of 100 kids in the town, getting Clothes, School supplies and food. Helping kids (and Parents) with these topic, we avoid Schools relinquishment and low academic performance.
The end of Colombian conflict starts in 2017, since that, we are working with Jurados people to achieve a better future with turtles. Our commitment is for long term, because this community and turtles need real solutions. Step by step we engage more kids, parents and local government; right now we have a small hatchery and a small group of kids (40), so this crowfounding will help us to grow up and remain in this territory for a long time.
