70% of all the children with a Primary Immunodeficiency need an antibodies replacement treatment in order to survive. Poor families do not have medical social security to cover the treatment. This antibodies replacement treatment is available in Mexico. However, it is only guaranteed for children 5 years old or younger by the Mexican Public Health Ministry. We is seeking to work alongside with the Mexican Public Health authorities and families to modify Public Health Policies and Laws
Children with this kind of genetic diseases have no immune system or it does not function properly. Consequently, they are very vulnerable and are subject to serious and repetitive infections caused by fungus, bacteria, parasites and viruses like pneumonia, meningitis and die. These families and children face a situation where the treatment is only guaranteed for those 5 years old or younger. At 6 years old their treatment is cancelled and they fall back to suffer serious and deadly infections.
It should exist in Mexico a governmental Public Health Policy that guarantees full access to treatment for all these children with no restrictions of age or any other condition. By organizing meetings and forums, presenting clear proposals, giving voice to families, we will work alongside the authorities to modify Public Health Policies and Laws. This will allow to low the mortality of children having these diseases, and shortening the struggle of families in getting the proper treatment.
With your help we will raise attention in regards of the importance of children's lives, that it is children's right to have treatment access guaranteed with no discrimination. We want to see those hundreds children grow up strong and with no physical limitations that would prevent them to have a healthy and happy life. Having these diseases on the national public health agenda is crucial.
