SORD's Report: Save Yemeni Children from Death

The tragic conditions added a new and great burden to the suffering of the Yemeni people economically and healthily, as the food crisis worsened among the Yemeni family, especially the poor ones, which increased the number of children infected with infectious diseases and epidemics that lead to death, as well as malnutrition, which heralds these conditions of a humanitarian catastrophe. It is the first in the world, where there is severe weakness in the health field, which stands powerless in the face of this increase in fatal diseases and weak body immunity and its resistance as a result of the acute shortage of healthy food, which has become almost non-existent, especially among poor families. In addition to the deterioration of health services in most regions of Yemen, infectious diseases It is the deadliest in children, in addition to the febrile diseases that damage the spinal cord and make the child suffer from permanent disability, which is paralysis resulting from brain atrophy due to high fever, which requires first aid for the child at the beginning of the feeling of fever. Due to the lack of health services in the targeted areas, Sanid Organization for Relief and Development (SORD) followed the referral system to the central hospitals, which are tens and hundreds of kilometers away from the targeted area, and by this means the organization is trying to save many children from death or permanent disability in movement.
The infectious and seasonal diseases associated with the breaks between winter and summer make Yemeni children vulnerable to death in light of the silence of the competent authorities and relevant organizations, which made us in SORD redouble our efforts to alleviate this suffering and save dozens of children during the last three months of the year 2022 AD and the beginning of The year 2022 is through continuous work in receiving and referring sick cases and children at risk of death and permanent disability, in particular, by providing all possible means of transportation and transporting children from poor and displaced families to more service centers and hospitals. To get out with the least human losses as a result of diseases and undernutrition.
In turn, SORD raised its project entitled: “Saving the lives of (1,250) children from death and permanent disability and applying the referral program. The proposed project aims to contribute to reducing deaths and diseases related to death for children in targeted areas with high rates of mortality and polio during the fourth quarter of 2022, Children at risk were referred, and how to use the available resources in order to overcome or reduce these epidemics.More details can be found about the project’s achievements on our part, and based on the available capabilities, we have made remarkable progress compared to the percentage of cases that were recorded by the team in the field. During the third quarter of the year 2022 AD in Hamedan District, Sana’a Governorate, as follows:
Total number of beneficiaries:

  1. 333 children referred internally
  • Children with fatal diarrhea (cholera) 77
  • People with meningitis and seasonal fevers (90).
  •  People with acute malnutrition (166)

    2. 235 children referred abroad.

  • People infected with cholera (89)
  • People with meningitis have seasonal fevers as a result of the severe cold season (58)
  • People with acute malnutrition (88)

We had recorded 99 cases of recovery from children who were referred internally, and 11 children are still under medical care and observation due to their poor health condition, and no deaths occurred. Also, 128 cases of recovery were recorded from children who were referred externally, and 13 deaths were recorded. And 8 cases of disability, while 55 children are still under medical observation as a result of the distance to the referral centers.
Due to the scarcity of capabilities and the lack of donations and support to save children from the danger of death, the number of beneficiaries decreased during the fourth quarter of interventions and aid, while the number of injuries is twice the number of beneficiaries, and this requires a generous gesture from benefactors and supporters to save the children of Yemen, among whom death rates are high due to deadly diseases.
