The children and youth in our care are abused, abandoned or neglected by either their families or society. They are given a beacon of hope for a better future, a future without violence, emotional trauma or rejection. We give them opportunities to live healthy, normal and sustainable lives. Our organisation, not only strengthens the lives of the children in our care but also the lives of the communities that we work in. We need as much help as we can get so that we can continue the work we do.
Every year there are thousands of abused, abandoned and neglected children and youth in South Africa. In Johannesburg alone, there are more than a thousand children and youth that are affected by poverty, lack of resources, lack of proper care within their homes and no families. Each year this number increases, which increases the number of children in institutional care as well as the number of unemployed youth.
St. Nicolas / St. Joseph's Homes work provide care to children between 4 and 18 years of age who have been abused and neglected by their families. We give them a safe, homely environment so that they are able to grow emotionally and academically. St George's Home caters for Youth between the ages of 14 and 21 who have previously lived on the streets and cannot cope in mainstream school. We offer them a range of skills so that they are able to secure employment upon completion of the programme.
St Nicolas / St Joseph's Homes aims to ensure that all our children are able to live with their families or foster families and not continue to be institutionalised. St George's Home aims to achieve a 100 % success rate in the programme and that once the youth have completed the various components of the programme, are able to secure employment and are self-sustainable independent adults who are able to reintegrate back into society.
