Challenge

We are breaking the cycle of spousal abuse by promoting healthy relationships in Ghana. As a survivor of spousal abuse, we know how spousal abuse can cause misery. It causes misery not only within the victim, but also within a family. Having seen the effects of abuse on children, we are dedicated to break this cycle. We believe prevention is better than cure and it is easier and cheaper to prevent than to respond. Our goal is to make sure the next youth marrying does not end in spousal abuse.

Solution

We believe prevention is better that cure and it's easier and cheaper to prevent. We educate the youth on spousal abuse and the Domestic Violence law so they are able to know, identify and avoid marrying abusers. Those from abusive homes will understand the issue at home and learn not to repeat what has happened between their parents in their own relationships There is counseling for victims to overcome abuse and a radio program to create awareness.Perpetrators and potential ones are deterred.

Long-Term Impact

The youth will be impacted through the education on spousal abuse and the domestic violence law through our workshops. They change their mindsets about spousal abuse and this enables them to identify and avoid marrying abusers. The cycle of spousal abuse is broken since the youth learns that spousal abuse isn't something they should accept. Also knowing what a healthy relationship can look like presents them with an alternative and reshapes the existing ideas about how men and women relate.
