Juanfe Foundation plans to save the life of 40 vulnerable babies who are under extreme poor conditions in Cartagena, Colombia. By providing medical treatment towards malnutrition and respiratory diseases, the Crib Sponsoring Program has saved the lives of 4.200 babies since 2001, and wants to tackle preventive children mortality.
Since 2014, 68.54% of children mortality cases in Cartagena could have been avoidable. Nowadays, the rate has increased dramatically; it has reached 11.5 deaths per 1.000 births. The main reasons are associated to acute respiratory infections and diarrheal diseases. In addition, since 2015, 8.38% of the city's babies have been born with low weight.
This project aims to save the lives of 40 babies between 0 and 24 months old and who have high risk of death, through health and nutritional interventions. We also teach the parents how to take care of their children, show them how to practice healthy habits and sickness prevention.
