There were recurrent severe droughts that occurred in Somaliland since 2015, due to failure of consecutive rainy sessions that affected the lives of pastoralists since they lost 75% of livestock. Recently, rains started and have led to an increased incidence of acute watery diarrhea (AWD), malnutrition to children and childbearing mothers who need for assistances to recover from drought. This fund will provide Nutrient food supplies, for 450 Household including 2250 children less than 10 years
There were recurrent severe droughts that occurred in Somaliland since 2015, due to failure of consecutive rainy sessions. 860,000 families are affected by the drought and 60% of them have lost almost 75% of their livestock which hindered purchasing power for food stock, and are faced malnutrition, starvation and high incidence of water and personal hygiene and sanitation related diseases (diarrhea), 48% of children are malnourished and 46% of them are exposed to various health risks.
The Project will provide nutrient food supplies to address the immediate need to tackle malnutrition and famine to target households of drought-affected families. the project will facilitate to educate sanitation and hygiene to reduce the risk of diarrhoea and water born diseases. The project will also promote and train rural mothers in nutrition and child care to minimise the risk of malnutrition under 5 children. and will also facilitate sessions on resource management for drought preparedness
The project will save lives of 3600 persons out of that 2250 are children who are rural pastoralists affected by drought. this will reduce mortality and morbidity of the target communities and will promote the knowledge of rural mothers on sanitation and hygienes to minimise the risk of water born diseases. and Project will promote communities drought preparedness mechanisms based on best management of their own resources
