Challenge

With the current maternal mortality ratio (MMR) of 630/100,000 live births, Nigeria ranks among the nations with the highest mortality rates in the world. One in five births are delivered with No One Present (using 2008 Nigeria DHS (NDHS) data). World Health Organization (WHO) noted that Nigeria alone contributes 14% of all maternal deaths in the world today. Roughly one in seven of women dying of maternal related causes globally live in Nigeria.

Solution

We will provide 6 months antenatal drugs to ensure healthy pregnancy, Dispense full dose anti-malaria to pregnant women and children and distribute insecticide treated nets to treat & prevent malaria. We will immunize children, give vitamin A supplements and deworm them regularly to boost their immunity against disease & prevent malnutrition. We will train community health workers to enhance their skills in lifesaving. We will also conduct weekly antenatal clinic & 2 hours daily free services.

Long-Term Impact

We will train 10 community health workers and traditional birth attendants in each community on lifesaving skills during home deliveries. This will ensure sustainable access to quality healthcare in the community. We will set up community based mutual health insurance services to allow the community enjoy continuous quality healthcare after this project ends in 6 months. Not less than 5000 people are projected to directly benefit from this project. The project will raise more health awareness.
