Empowerment center for tribal society in India

by SANTI (Social Association for Nourishment, Training & Improvement )

SANTI has been assigned to start skill development initiative under Pradhan Mantri Kousal Vikash Yojana (PMKVY) & National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) on General Duty Assistance (GDA) and is planning to train 25 participants in the first batch. As per the requirements of "PMKVY" we are planning to install CCTV and Biometric device in the training hall. We have also purchased 30 desks for the above initiative.

The Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) with his staff visited on date 19 Nov,2016 our training hall for field appraisal on community process (training to urban slum dwellers on community health). We had applied for this earlier.

To complete the SANTI center so that training can happen for all the above programs we need about 10000 USD for the below stuff.

1) Bore Well

2) Safety tank

3) 3 Bathrooms

4) Verandah

5) Stair Case

6) Boundary Wall

7) Sanitation

This is holiday season and Global Giving has a lot of matching opportunities, please donate so that we can complete the center in the next 3 months.

The 2016 #GivingTuesday campaign will begin November 29th, 2016, at 00:00:01 EST and end at 23:59:59 EST on November 29th, 2016 and there would be 50% matching for all the donations done on that day.

Hello Friends

Hope you are doing well, we would like to share our progress and achievements in past few months regarding the progress of constructing the Empowerment Center.

  • Thanks to our generous donor, as we have bought 12 bed frames will be used by SANTI children to sleep. Currently they don’t have bed to sleep due to space issue.
  • We are continuing to provide sewing training to needy teenage girls. This empowerment center provides a one stop center to organize various social activities. Because we have our own building we can do many pretty beneficial social activities.
  • We have applied for funding to government authority to train unemployed poor youth from our area. Based on our capabilities and experiences we are hopeful to get this new social work funded by Government.
  • Regarding the Empowerment Center construction, we finished remaining 7 windows, glass fitting with paintings.
  • Installed 2 wall racks/ Almira with glass fittings to house so that soft toys made by SANTI students can be displayed.
  • 30 truckloads of clay were filled up in front of the building to bring soil to the same level.

We need your donation to construct a bore well for water supply, Verandah, Stair case to roof access, Boundary wall etc. Please do support through globalgiving.com.

With Gratitude

Hello Friends

Hope you are doing well and preparing for upcoming Memorial Day weekend. It is reporting time for the building construction project.

This building is proudly serving as a center for SANTI’s activities. We are progressing on sewing and alteration training to local girls and many of them started earning money from their work. In parallel, we have successfully completed to educate about 600 women from Mahila Arogya Samiti (MAS) group dedicated to women health and hygiene. We also trained key group leaders on accounting and expense reporting while managing their group.

Due to our strong credentials and performance of SANTI National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) selected SANTI to expand our help to MAS based in nearby cities such as Sundargarh and Rourkela.

In addition to this, Rourkela City Program Management Unit (CPMU) has selected SANTI to educate local citizens through folk programs and media show.

So far we have completed numerous health awareness programs that educated more than 10,000 people. The main theme of these programs are immunization awareness, birth control, child health program, use of safe drinking water, awareness for Dengue, Malaria, Diabetes, Cancer and hypertension etc.

Hence, you can feel the urgent need to finish this building construction. We need your support for completion of this building so that we continue to do great work in future.

Wish you are doing well and in good health.

The new building is the only place free to conduct important charitable activities in Rajgangpur suburb areas.

In the slum areas disease and illness are immediate issues. People suffer and die due to sickness and without proper health care. We have realized the need and organized a week long (6 days) campaign and trained 200 women from slum areas. This program is called Mahila Arogya Samiti which focuses on prevention of the disease and taking care of common illnesses. This training is critically needed to educate them about sanitization and other requirements to prevent the disease.

We are proud to be funded by Mr. CDMO (Chief District Medical Officer) to conduct such activities though our Empowerment center or building. We have selected five suburb areas to focus. These 200 trained women will run various health awareness programs. We are committed to mitigate health issues in this locality.

200 women got trained in our partially built house. To run a week long program with so many people we need to finish the building construction. We need at least USD 9, 500 to move forward. Completion of the building will help us to run such programs. This building is pivotal to conduct such great work under one roof.

We need to finish following items

Two side verandahs,

One Side room,

Three Toilets,

Toilet safety tank,

One bore well,

Please support to finish this building so that we can do more such great work already in pipe line.

Thanks for your great help.

Wish you a great Thanksgiving holiday week ahead.

We have achieved various milestones in terms of activities and in the construction of the building since our last reporting.

High impact activities were conducted in last months in our newly built building that you will definitely appreciate.

  • We helped to create bank accounts for 200 poor people and deposited Rs 12 for each of their bank account. Now they are qualified for accidental medical coverage of upto 1 Lakh Rs. from Govt of India. This was a big issue, when they involve accidental medical treatment. This effort was highly appreciated by local people.
  • CDMO (Chief District Medical Officer) selected our organization to provide disease prevention training. This training will help to improve the health and sanitization for 14 slum areas consisting of about 7000 People. We will provide training to handful leaders from each slum area. Once they are trained we will scale those to all local people from that area. We are expecting greater result out of our effort.

Building Construction Progress

  • Finished the interior of most the rooms. There are three (3) rooms sized 25’X15’, one (1) rest area 12’X15’ and one (1) office 12’X15’ are finished. Those are provided with electricity, painting etc.
  • Two (2) bathrooms and one (1) kitchen areas are completed.
