Sanitation situation is very worst in the proposed working villages, 85% of the families don't have latrines, 3% families have proper sanitary latrines in rich households, rest 12% has unhygieni pit latrines. People used to do open defecations. Women suffer due to open defecation, as they have to attend open defecation during the night or in the early morning, which is a very indecent and shying issue for the women. Sun Flower intent to install 200 family latrines and aware of the community.
Open defecation is a major issue in the project area. This is mainly because of a lack of latrines, due to cost and space constraints, and low awareness about the health and environmental benefits of latrines. 73% of households cannot afford to buy and install a latrine and 10% lack the space for a latrine. Diarrhea the fourth biggest killer of children aged from 1 to 4 is prevalent in rural area in Northern Bangladesh.
Sun Flower will install 200 low-cost sanitary latrines for the poor families and conduct awareness campaigns for using sanitary latrine to be free from contaminated disease among the community people.
1. The contaminated disease will be reduced among the beneficiary families. 2. Social dignity of the poor household will be increased. 3. Behavioral practice related to health and hygiene will be increased among the benefited families. 4. Illness-related cost burden will be reduced among the beneficiary families. 5. Hygiene conscious children will lead to better livelihood practice for future generations.
