The project aim to equip girls with the knowledge of what menstruation entails, and how to independently and hygienically manage it. This project will do training to 5000 school girls and boys and provide school girls with proper sanitary pads. The project intends to highlight as a menstrual hygiene management rights issue and bring it into the mainstream of health and development.
In Tanzania, most girls in primary and s schools who have reached puberty do not use appropriate sanitary wear during their monthly menstrual. They use local pads. Due to lack of lack of water in most rural schools, washing of re-usable pads poses a serious challenge. If they attend school without proper sanitary wear, many girls soil their uniforms and suffer psychologically due to shame and embarrassment.
Problem will be solved through 1.Educating school girls and boys on stigma-free MHM 2.Training student ambassadors in promoting MHM at the school level 3.Training tailoring mamas in the villages in sewing re-usable sanitary napkins 4.Developing a complete set of MHM care including re-usable sanitary napkins, napkin holder, clutch, waterproof bag, soap, MHM instructions, menstrual calendar, recycling pen and panties 5. Setting up emergency sanitary napkin dispensing system at the school level
1. Prevention from the infection in reproductive and urinary tract 2. Increase access to safe and affordable sanitary materials to manage their menstruation 3. Improved school performance and low absenteeism from school 4. Build confidence and self esteem
