Challenge

More than 7000 people in Oraukwu Community are using the stream as their primary source of drinking water. The streams are also used for bathing and laundry. The water is often dirty and unsafe, but they have no alternative. Women and children spend more than 3 hours each day walking kilometers to collect water from unprotected stream source. Carrying the heavy water containers back home is an exhausting task. Death of children caused by water born diseases are common in the community.

Solution

Edom Group will drill solar powered 380ft deep borehole (according to Geophysical report) for providing safe clean water for the community members. The Solar Powered Borehole will steadily draw water as long as the sun is shining , water will be pumped into a sealed overhead tank eliminating the risk of contamination from where water will be distributed to the running tapes. Sensitization workshop will be organized for them in batches to train them on WASH using improved guideline

Long-Term Impact

In Oraukwu Community water is life. Year round access to safe clean drinking water and improved sanitation practice will help the 7000 beneficiaries families transform their lives which will provide for their family health and well being and free them from misery of water related diseases. The Solar Powered Borehole requires no maintenance (only cleaning) and will be installed by local engineers that will maintain the system for a long term. This means a healthier community for decades.
