NARRATIVE
Introduction
In November 2017 we received a grant funding from GlobalGiving (US) to carry out a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) campaign in a Community Primary School and its neighboring Community in Katadde Parish – Nangabo Sub-County.
This narrativeport highlights the activities which were implemented during the campaign.
ACTIVITIES/RESULTS ATTAINED:
Expected Outputs
-Community involvement in hygiene campaigns.
-Awareness raising about sanitation hygiene.
Planned activities
-Procuring hygiene items for school.
-Developing and printing education information (EIC) materials.
-Conducting hygiene campaign in a school and neighboring community
Activities Completed
- procured 3 hand wash units, 5 plastic water containers and 1 carton of
hand washing soap .
- 100 A2 posters with hygiene messages printed and10 adhesive sticker
Developed .
- A one day hygiene campaign held in one school 49 people attended
( pupils and teachers).
Results attained
- Delivered to one school: 3 hand wash units, 5 plastic water container (20 litres) and 1 carton of soap.
- Posters distributed within the community
- An informed community and sensitized in good hygiene practices e.g
hand washing.
ASSESSMENT OF ACHIEVEMENTS
The hygiene campaign in the school was successful. The pupils and teachers showed a lot of enthusiasm. They were sensitized on good hygiene practices like hand washing with soap. Some parents also attended and they were very impressed.
The school received hygiene items i.e 3 hand washing units and 20 litre plastic water containers which will continue to be used to ensure proper hand washing and storage of clean water from the protected spring.
Education and information communication materials A2 posters were distributed to School and neighboring community ensuring a sustained approach to reduce hygiene / Sanitation related disease like diaohorea reported in the community.
The VHT (Village Health Teams) and local leaders used in distribution of awareness materials pledged to ensure improved hygiene standards.
CHALLENGES
There is a high demand for the project in other schools and villages yet the coverage was limited due to the available funding.
