Update from Global Health Bridge

By Smisha Agarwal | President

Global Health Bridge has made significant strides in planning and development of a new and improved product, as well as in organizational structural changes over the last few months. While working closely with the Community Health Workers (CHW) in Jamkhed, we have received a very positive feedback about our first product, the Maternal Health Reporter (MHR). This system has proven to be cost and time effective for many CHWs who have spent many years of their lives going door-to-door, visiting every pregnant woman in the village of more than a 1,000 people.

Global Health Bridge is currently undergoing incorporation as a not for profit in India. Developing a local identity will enable us to partner closely with local not-for-profits and government. On the product development front, we have very exciting news. GHB is currently in the process of developing a customizable mobile based system by taking into consideration the various health data needs of the healthcare providers. Our proposed mHealth system, though initially targeted at mothers, will have the flexibility to be adapted to various data needs.  It will also be adaptable to different health care settings. The greatest challenge in developing this customizable platform has been remaining steadfast to our commitment of developing simple and grassroot-inspired technologies. The proposed platform will be applicable for the simplest mobile phones available in the market and the system will not need advanced technological expertise to operate.

Over the last few months, we have also developed several new partnerships with local organizations in both urban and rural areas in India to pilot the new product. It is crucial for us to understand their health data needs prior to implementing the system. The insights provided by our partners, their extensive experience and their inputs with respect to the socio-cultural norms are extremely valuable for us to develop a tool that is acceptable, applicable and adaptable to diverse population in India.

We are thankful to our partners and supporters from all parts of the world for their valuable feedback, support and interest in our work. We would like to know any ideas regarding mHealth that may help improving the healthcare access in the developing countries. We welcome your suggestions and feedback on our work.
