Village women using Traditional stove and facing lot of problems

Many deaths every year caused by acute lower respiratory infections, the leading causes of disease and mortality which are the offspring of indoor pollution and lung congestion caused by the use of traditional stoves emitting smoke. A majority of villagers usually cook on the earthen stove or a three brick earthen burner which over a period of time is responsible for lung disease and blurred vision.

A hut enveloped in smoke and women trying to put up with burning eyes is a common sight in village homes. The eye-sight of hundreds of women is being affected besides causing respiratory problems to them due to inhaling of smoke. On the environmental front, there is a massive consumption of firewood and carbon emissions.

Contributing to the Future

Any contribution you can make towards stoves or planting trees will be put into a fund so that when we are able to move forward with a building program, we are prepared.  Please choose from these option: The innovativeness of the smokeless stove program lies in the fact that it is completely localized. From the design of the stove to the method of dissemination, every step has been implemented keeping in mind the rural women’s needs. AHD  conducted a survey among rural women to understand what they want from a cook stove.

The foremost achievement of the AHD’s stove dissemination program has been its impact on the lives of several women in U/c Mubarkpur of  Jecobabad district . At one level AHD has created rural women energy entrepreneurs, giving these women a new lease of life. At another, it has made available effective smokeless stoves which reduce the drudgery that rural women face during their daily cooking. The smokeless stove initiative adopted a strategy that involved women in all aspects of dissemination.
