This project is Empowering 100 teenage mothers by giving them life skills training and an opportunity to go back to school, thus giving them their lives back and economically empowering them.
1 of every 4 girlsin Uganda is pregnant. Pregnancy is the girl's burden and it carries life altering consequences for them. In Uganda, the shame of teenage pregnancy is extreme, and girls often have no one-not teachers, not parents, not even peers-to confide in or seek help. This situation typically results in to girls' social exclusion with a few attempts to reintegrate them even after they give birth, or to provide them with further educational opportunities or skills. Many end up on streets.
The project will empower teenage mothers through basic skills training, economic empowerment, peer education, self esteem, education, hairdressing and cookery. Our assessment has found these community engagements to have an immediate impact.
The project will help economically empower teenage mothers and eradicate poverty among 100 teenage mothers in rural Kyotera. This will provide for their incomes and provide for their children and the community as a whole.
