This project seeks to provide bicycles to 150 underprivileged school children in the deprived and hard to reach communities in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern region of Ghana who walk long distance between 5 to 10 kilometers to attend Junior High School daily. (Junior High School is the last three years of basic education). The distance these underprivileged students walk every day is impacting negatively on their academic lives some of which are; truancy, lateness to school, etc.
The East Mamprusi district has a total number of 309 communities with only 15 of them have Junior High schools. As a result students in the district after completing primary school education in their respective communities have to look for the nearest community with a Junior High School to attend. (Junior high school is the last 3 years of basic education). Because of this problem students have to walk long distance to attend Junior high school. The problem is impacting negatively on the student
This project will provide bicycles to 150 underprivileged students from the deprived and hard to reach communities in the district. The bicycles will serve as a means of transport to school for the students. The project will also encourage more students from the deprived and hard to reach communities to attend Junior High School. Most of these students dropout of school as result of the distance they walk to school everyday. The will reduce the dropout rate significantly.
Beneficiaries of this project will be able to complete their basic education (Junior high school) and will also attend Senior high school. The deprived and hard to reach communities in the district will have more children progressing to the Senior High School level.
