Project #6090

Restore Sight in Zihuatanejo, Mexico

by Surgical Eye Expeditions (SEE) International

We are pleased with the results of this project and while we fell short of funding the placement of lasers at the clinic, SEE International surgeons continue to perform suergeries and support the work of the clinic. Overall, both the travelling doctors and host affiliate are pleased with the results of this project and are optomistic about future collaborations.

The clinic was conducted and approximately 1000 vision screenings were completed and a total of 186 surgeries were performed by the SEE International team. The surgery breakdown is as follows:

  • Cataract: 149
  • Pterygium: 12
  • YAG: 25

The clinic was a great success and while funding for a permanent YAG laser has not yet been secured, the benefits to the community were far reaching and profound.
