Conservation of Nature for Survival is intended to restore four (4) hectares found along the Indian ocean adjacent to three villages in Saadani and Makurunge wards in Bagamoyo district - Tanzania. The restoration will be done through transplanting process of mangrove seedlings from germination source to the cleared spaces in the four (4) identified hectares. The total number of 44,824 will be planted with 11,206 seedlings in each hectare.
There is rapid deforestation of mangrove forest along Indian Ocean adjacent to Saadani and Makurunge wards in Bagamoyo district, Tanzania. The deforestation has resulted into destructed marine resources habitat hence caused immediate decline of marine resources mostly fish species and coral reefs. Community is currently suffers from limited fishing. The project will train the villagers on reforestation methodologies and involve restore 4 hectares with total number of 44,824 mangrove seedlings.
The project activities will be training villages in reforestation methodologies (planting of seedlings, protection from deforestation and minimize the use of forest products - use of improved cooking stoves), demonstration on making improved cooking stoves and planting of mangrove seedlings in four identified hectares.
The project will educate 220 villages who will participate in restoring mangrove forest for creating marine habitat hence increase fish production and growth which will improve health and economic livelihoods to fishing community. It will subsequent involve the planting of 44,824 mangrove seedlings in four hectares.
