Agency for Rural and Urban Development is implementing a program aimed at restoring ecosystems' health and improving livelihoods of riparian communities. The organization members are strategically located within the upper, middle and lower stream of the Mubuku -Nyamwamba catchment with the focus of tackling the ecological challenges within the area without compromising the livelihood of the riparian communities.
Consequently, the vulnerability of the Mubuku-Nyamwamba community to the effects of climate change cannot be underestimated, given the topographic nature of the entire catchment being a flood plain coupled with the vast grazing land being used as a common pool resource, with very minimal conservation. This has tremendously reduced productivity and affected the major livelihood of this fragile community. The shift in the national boundaries due to collapsing riverbanks is still evident in areas
Civil society capacity to engage in policy advocacy and management of the Mubuku-Nyamwamba catchment strengthened. At least three Community Based Water user organizations need to have their institutional capacity and integrated policy advocacy and engagement in their strategic plans.Communities adjacent to RMNP need to be economically empowered to adopt sustainable livelihood enterprises and reduce dependence on park resources,create sustainable land use management practices and interventions
project demonstration facilitating learning of members and the host farmer in climate smart agricultural practices that focuses on improved and increased coffee productivity for increased incomes.
