Challenge

Since the onset of Boko Haram insurgency in 2002, thousands of people have been killed and many, especially women and children are left displaced and homeless after every attack in the Northern parts of Nigeria. A lot of children are out of school and what would have been a promising life is turned bleak and uncertain. The youths, due to lack of resources, skills and concern by many have resorted to criminal activities to survive. A lot of these demography are currently clustered in IDP camps.

Solution

Resettling the Internally Displaced Persons (R-IDP) Project will empower the displaced persons by providing them with valuable skills and resources with which they can build a promising future. With this inception project, we seek to locate and train 50 IDP's in 5 construction trade skills: Painting, Electrical Installation, Carpentry, Plumbing, and Tiling. This project will empower beneficiaries with demand-driven and employability skills for a sustainable future.

Long-Term Impact

The R-IDP Project will train and empower 50 beneficiaries. The skills that will be impacted are in high demand in the construction sector thus creating immediate employment for beneficiaries, encouraging their resettlement and reconstruction of their homeland. It will also serve as a model skills development project for other IDPs, thus solving the unemployment problem in Nigerian youths. It is a sustainable approach to youth restiveness and potential for future crisis in the region.
