"Replant South Sudan: Restoring Green Cover" aims to combat deforestation in Magwi County by replanting native trees both fruit and non-fruit trees, providing alternative livelihoods, and educating communities on sustainable practices, ultimately restoring the region's ecological balance and improving local resilience.
Cumulative effects of years of conflict affected the whole population of South Sudan. This left the country in hopeless situation and undermined livelihoods of the people. It caused many to rely on trees in form of firewood or charcoal for income. Also, use of the trees as firewood and poles for home use amplifies more. This causes much degradation to the environment and unable to withstand climatic socks.
The project will reforest degraded areas, provide sustainable livelihood alternatives, and educate communities on the importance of conservation, thereby reducing reliance on tree cutting and restoring the ecological balance in Magwi County.
The long-term impact includes restored ecosystems, increased biodiversity, improved air and soil quality, reduced erosion, sustainable livelihoods, and a community empowered to protect and manage their natural resources.
