At Mettuppalayam of Thiruthuraipoondi in Thiruvarur District of Tamilnadu state “Gaja cyclone” hit caused great damages and losses. Being considered these damages and losses, we planned to create awareness and to provide, different types of Training programmes. Our organizatio Chevalier Roche Society jointly with Global Giving convened these programme. With a Trainer, co –ordinator etc. We formed a team from Chevalier Roche Society and that team visited the disaster affected places of this gaja hit area met the victims in person arranged for the Awareness aeration and various types of FIRST AID Training programmes. Of which one is the “Making Bandage” training programme. During the cyclone “GAJA” hit several trees fill down, houses and shops were demolished .In order to protect the victims being entangled in the “Cyclone Gaja Disaster” “First Aid Training programme was offered to the chosen qualified trainers. When a victim is injured severely up on head or having fractured up on hand or leg in order to protect them in a proper manner “Bandage Making Training” was offered to the trainers of this area. In this training programme various types of people, Self Help women Group members 12 no, group leader. Mrs. Mary co- ordinate, Chevalier Roche Society Mrs. Suyambukani Trainer Chevalier Roche Society also participated. This training programme was began at 10-30 am in the morning. At the beginning of the programme Mrs. Vijaya self help women Group leader greeted everyone who participated in the training programme and informed that the programme had began to do the rehabilitation work for the “Cyclone Gaja Disaster” affected people at Mettupalayam area of Thiruvarur district. She also mentioned about the programme that was very beneficial for the women at Mettupalayam area. Because of this disaster cyclone many people had lost their houses and possessions and it made a very pathetic condition. She mentioned also that the Awareness and Training programme had been arranged to rectify their problems and to compensate their losses. When Mrs. Mary Co- ordinater, Chevalier Roche Society spoke she mentioned that the Organizations Global Giving and Chevalier Roche Society had jointly chosen that area named Mettupalayam, at Thiruthiraipoondi of Thiruvarur District to enhance the protection and Development of women in that area the Awareness and Training programme had been provided to them.

During this Training programme the Trainer Mrs. Suyambukani provided many types of Bandage making Training with the practical demonstration. Of which some are mentioned below

  1. Ordinary Bandage
  2. “SPICA” bone fracture bandage
  3. ‘ 8’ shaped bandage
  4. Cradle type bandage
  5. Ordinary Bandage

During the occurrence of disaster such as Cyclone and huge flood trees, rocks, large sized stones are dashed off. Some people are entangled unexpectedly among them and they are affected much. During that occasion some get injured upon their heads and hemorrhage is occurred. In order to avoid such hemorrhage and to stop the bleeding at the injured spot we can keep a piece of clean cloth from sari, shawl, dhoti or towel etc.and stop the bleeding at the injured body part. At first with the help of a clean dry cloth we can hold the injured spot with some pressure. After the bleeding gets stopped, we must make the bandage in an ordinary manner with help of available clean & cloth surrounding the injury. Tightly this is called the ordinary bandage. Then the hemorrhage would be stopped.

  1. SPICA –BONE FRACTURE BANDAGE

When a person gets injured a leg or hand or leg and bones are fractured a proper bandage must be made properly. This type of bandage had been thought and a practical demonstration. By this type of bandage the injured victim would not feel acute pain and the fractured bone will not move here and there. The bone also would not be moved further. It would reduce the pain and shock to the victim. He would also feel comfortable. This type of bandage would be made up on the fractured bone of hand or leg with the support of sticks or wooden planks etc. so that there would be no movement of fractured bones. This type of bandage is made not to make any movement at the fractured bone of hand or leg and the victim would not feel much pain after making this bandage. This type of bandage is made at shoulder, hip and thumb portions of our body part

  1. “ 8” Shaped bandage ( Figure of ‘ 8 ‘ bandage)

This 8 shaped spiral bandage would be made in alternative manner. This type of bandage is usually made at injured hand and foot portions. For this bandage we must take a lengthy cloth and is tied at the lengthy and alternative manner. It removes the pain and blood clotting at the injured portion of the victim.

  1. Sling bandage

When a victim gets injured or a swelling is found on his hand this bandage is made to support the injured hand and to control the movements of hand. In this bandage there are three types of bandages. They are

     a, fore hand sling

b, Shoulder bone & wrist sling

c,Triangle shaped sling

a, Fore hand sling ;

This type of bandage is made especially during the occasion of ordinary waist bone fracture and fore hand bone fracture. When this type of bandage is made finger portion only should not be covered with the bandage. Hand must be completely supported with the bandage.

b. Shoulder bone, wrist sling;

This type of bandage bears only the wrist portion of the hand. Then injured persons forehand is folded and it must be in the position that fingers must be in the position to touch the opposite shoulder portion. Around the wrist a bandage must be made with the help of a harrow strip of cloth bit. During this type of bandage a knot must be made surrounding the injured part.

C. Triangle shaped sling;

Hand must be in a lifted up position so the hind portion of the hand supports the fore hand area. During the fracture of the shoulder bone this type of bandage is made In order to get relief from the acute pain this type of bandage is made. At first the injured persons palm must be kept upon his chest. The bandage cloth must be spread off. It must be spread upon the chest a bandage cloth must come outside the hand ankle portion. Another bandage cloth must cover the injured hand. In this manner different types of bandages were taught with the practical demonstration.

                          Finally one of the women self help group members described in detail about the benefits of the Training programme to the gaja affected women and also for the community. Also she personally described the benefits of the Training programme and the importance of the same. Then the vote of Thanks was delivered. Finally this Awareness and Training programme accomplished successfully.
