Anybody know how to run a back hoe? Me neither! But that didn't stop us from moving forward with our project, despite a lack of experience operating machinery of this type.
We were having trouble lining up professional help with our pasture irrigation project, so we did our research. We learned all about pasture drain tiles and how to install them, how they work, and how to lay them out. Okay, we still have a bit of studying to do, but it seemed do-able! So, we next researched buying our own equipment and doing it ourselves. My husband found a great deal on this Back Hoe, and viola, we bought it! It is pretty impressive. That is me sitting in the driver's seat. (Notice that it is still sitting on the trailer!)
Now, we have to figure out how to pay for it! We may need to adjust our fundraising goal in order to cover the equipment and supplies for the horses. We will definitely let you know! We certainly could use your help now!
October 17th is BONUS DAY! That means that YOUR donation is worth 30% more thanks to a matching gift from Global Giving. If you are planning on a fall donation, why not give when it helps the most - BONUS DAY! Starting at midnight, please donate what you can!
Thank you so much for your continued support of our efforts with the horses. With hay prices as they are this year, the more we receive here frees up funds to pay for Hay and Grain for the horses.
I look forward to hearing from you all. Please write with any questions to: lora@BertellFarms.org.

PS: This month, my recommendation for an organization worthy of mention is Comfort for Critters. They organize the creation and dispensing of small blankets to be given to animals in shelters waiting for their forever homes. The blankets then are sent with the animal once they are adopted. If you can knit or crochet, or have yarn to donate, they could use your help. Check them out at www.ComfortforCritters.org.
